For Rescues and Foster Homes: Grass for Every Cat in Your Care

Plain answers for rescues, shelters and foster homes on fresh grass for many cats: how much, how often, standing orders and adoptions.

For Rescues and Foster Homes: Grass for Every Cat in Your Care - Sprouties
Quick answer

A box of fresh grass gives every cat in a rescue or foster home a safe plant of their own. In a home with several cats a box is usually finished in two to three days, so Build Your Plan brings 1 to 4 boxes per delivery, and rescues can message us about standing orders.

Rescues, shelters and foster homes across the UAE look after a lot of cats at once, often on tight budgets and tighter schedules. If you're one of them, this guide is for you. No interview, no sales pitch: just plain answers to the questions people caring for many cats ask us about fresh grass.

Q: How does a box of grass fit into a rescue or foster home?

A: Simply. A box of fresh grass gives every cat in your care a safe plant of their own to nibble. Our grass is organic, grown hydroponically in the UAE, pesticide-free and non-GMO. It's vet approved, and vets recommend our grass to their patients. It arrives grown and ready the day it arrives, so there's nothing to plant and nothing to wait for.

Eating plants is a common cat behavior. In a survey of more than 1,000 cat owners, most cats had been seen eating plants, and very few had seemed unwell beforehand.

In a home with many cats, watch each one. One keen nibbler can hide another cat's lack of interest, or a shy cat who can't get near the box. Feline welfare guidance favors resources that every cat can reach.

Q: How long does a box last when there are lots of cats?

A: A box stays good for about 7 days from harvest. In a home with several cats, a box is usually finished in two to three days, which is why Build Your Plan exists. You can choose 1 to 4 boxes per delivery, weekly or every 10 days, while every 2 weeks caps at 2 boxes so each box stays fresh. Every plan comes with free delivery, and the Build Your Plan page shows the price for each number of boxes and each schedule.

Q: Can a rescue or foster home set up a standing order with Sprouties?

A: Yes, talk to us. If you run a rescue or a foster home, message us about standing orders. Tell us roughly how many cats you have and how fast they go through grass, and we'll work out the right number of boxes and the right schedule with you.

The quickest way to reach us is WhatsApp. You can also email contact@sprouties.ae. Either way, we would much rather hear from you early than have your cats run out of grass halfway through a busy week.

Delivery works the same for everyone: order today and your box arrives the next day, harvested that morning. A Saturday order arrives on Monday.

Boxes reach you between 12 PM and 10 PM, fresh and chilled, across all seven emirates. There are no deliveries on Sundays or UAE public holidays, and plans can be skipped, paused or cancelled any time.

Q: Which grass suits which cat?

A: It depends on the cat. Wheat is a daily ritual for cats prone to stress: soft, fine grass to return to whenever they need it. Oat is crisp grass for cats who are particular about what they eat. Barley has broad leaves with more in every bite, for adult and senior cats who nibble at their own pace. All three help with hairballs.

Q: Can kittens and cats with health conditions have grass?

A: Kittens can start once they are eating solid food. Offer a small amount while you watch, and let them explore at their own pace. Cats with allergies or a health condition, or cats on a special diet, should have your vet's go-ahead first, before you add anything new, grass included.

If a cat vomits often, has trouble swallowing or seems unwell, that's a question for your vet, not for a box of grass.

Q: What if a cat eats too much at once, or won't touch it at all?

A: Both happen. Some cats are very keen at first. If they eat a lot at once and bring it back up often, offer the box for 10 to 15 minutes at a time instead. The novelty usually settles within a few days. Other cats ignore the box for a while, and that's normal too: new things can take time. Our founder has noticed that a newcomer sometimes takes its cue from a cat who is already nibbling. That's his observation from customers' homes, not a study, but it's worth knowing in a house full of cats.

Q: What happens when one of your cats goes to a new home?

A: That's our favorite part. Cats adopted in the last 60 days from a UAE-registered shelter or rescue get their first month of Complete Wellness free. The new family sends us the adoption certificate through the form on our adoption page, and we check it within 2 working days. There's one free month per home, and after that the bundle continues at its usual monthly price, with skip, pause or cancel any time.

So when a cat leaves your care, mention it to the adopters. The Complete Wellness Bundle brings all three of our grasses, one box every 10 days: barley, oat and wheat in turn. Delivery is free on every plan, and it gives a cat in a brand-new home one familiar thing to come back to.

Q: How is the grass grown, and is it safe around so many cats?

A: Every box is organic, grown hydroponically here in the UAE, pesticide-free and non-GMO. We harvest the morning a box is delivered, and it reaches you the same day, fresh and chilled. Our grass is vet approved, and vets recommend it to their patients. We don't sell seeds or DIY kits. Every box arrives grown, which matters when you're short on time and long on cats.

Q: What if a box arrives with a problem, or a cat doesn't take to a grass?

A: That's what the Happy Cats Guarantee is for. If your box arrives with a problem, we send you a new one. Subscribers whose cat doesn't take to a grass get another grass to try, and can have their money back if that one isn't for them either. Claims go through the form at sprouties.ae/pages/happycats.

Q: Is grass a replacement for good food or vet care?

A: No, and we'd never want it to be. Grass is something for a cat to nibble, not a meal and not a treatment. It doesn't replace a complete diet, a vet visit for a cat who's unwell, or the patience and care that rescue work runs on. Welfare charities advise complete food and a vet visit for a cat who vomits often, and we agree. Think of grass as a small extra: a safe green thing in a home that may otherwise have none.

What we can say is that all three grasses help with hairballs, and that we grow it for happier and healthier cats. A fresh box is a simple way to add something green to every day in your care.

Q: Ready to talk standing orders? Message us on WhatsApp.

A: We'd love to hear from you. Tell us how many cats are in your care and how often you'd like a delivery, and we'll talk you through a standing order.

Q: What happens to a cat's grass routine when they're adopted?

A: It can go home with them. A familiar box can be one small thing that stays the same in a new place. If the cat was adopted in the last 60 days from a UAE-registered shelter or rescue, the new home can claim a free first month of Complete Wellness. They send the adoption certificate through the form, we check it within 2 working days, and it's one free month per home. After that, the bundle continues at its usual monthly price, and they can skip, pause or cancel anytime.

Saying goodbye to a foster cat is bittersweet, and every adoption makes room for another cat who needs a safe place to wait. If you care for cats on their way to a forever home, we'd be glad to help keep something fresh and green in their day. Build Your Plan brings 1 to 4 boxes per delivery, weekly or every 10 days, and in homes with several cats a box is usually finished in two to three days.
